About Denise
I’m a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in New York and a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in New Jersey. I have completed post graduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the American Institute of Psychoanalysis.
My interest in psychology began while I was obtaining a master’s degree in Gender Politics at New York University. My thesis explored the effects of our hyper-consumerist/capitalistic culture on intimate relationships—“shopping” for mates online, an insatiable desire for what’s new and shortening attention spans.
At around the same time, I became increasingly interested in Buddhism, meditation and mindfulness practices, especially as an antidote to the above issues. With the growth of social networking, online dating, and internet/smartphone addiction, the problem of superficial communication (and relationships) has only become more pronounced. I am interested in working with people in a therapeutic capacity to assist with these issues.
